KFV Field Day + Wine Social - Cabernet Franc Planting

Vineyard Planting 101: Hosted by Kinsey Family Vineyards, in partnership with the Missouri Grape Growers Association (MGGA)

Join us at our Highland Dells Ranch site in Jackson, MO for an on-site walk-through of what it really takes to plant a vineyard. We will be planting 1.5 acres of Cabernet Franc and covering the key decisions that happen before vines ever go in the ground—site selection, row layout & spacing, trellis planning, soil prep, variety/rootstock considerations, and the “why” behind each choice. Then we’ll walk the block and talk through planting-day workflow plus the management plan moving forward (early training, weed control, nutrition, and first-year priorities).

Perfect for anyone thinking about planting grapes—home growers, small farms, and future vineyard owners. All are welcome!

Questions encouraged, and wine will be served during the event. Feel free to bring some to share, if you are inclined (not required).

Schedule of Events:

  • 9:00–9:20 Welcome + overview (what you’re doing today and why)

  • 9:20–10:30 Planning decisions walk-through (layout/spacing, trellis, soil prep, rootstock, etc.)

  • 10:30–11:30 Planting workflow demo / block walk

  • 11:30–12:00 Wine wrap-up and Q&A

This is a free event & open to the public. Please RSVP as soon as possible: kyle@kinseyag.com.

Viticulture & Winemaking For Small Wineries

We understand the difficulties faced with smaller vineyard and winery operations, and we want to take the opportunity to present various aspects of viticulture and winemaking from the standpoint of the smaller growers that are making big strides in their communities, as well as utilize the time to help further educate ourselves in how to grow quality grapes, and then what to do with those once harvested.

Kyle Marret will speak on soil and its pivotal role in viticulture, and we will also have other community stars presenting other topics. Should be a fun day of networking and fun, so make sure you mark the date!

We hope to see you there.
